DIY:Whip it GOOD-Shea Butter

So today when I got home I remembered
that I had some Shea Moisture (my fave brand) Raw Shea Butter
sitting under my bathroom sink AND a new recipe that I found here.
It was REALLY hard and I couldn't use like I wanted to
so I decided it was time to WHIP IT UP!
The shea butter was infused with Frankincense and myrrh
but I decided to add Extra Virgin Coconut oil, Creme Brulee Moisturizer by Cali BeijaFlore's and Aloe Vera Gel.
It took all of 20 minutes to get the consitency that I wanted.
I made sure my hand mixer was on the highest setting
and then I started whipping.
My result was AIRY AND FLUFFY, I was pleased.
Also, the Shea Butter TRIPLED in size once it was whipped.
The 4 oz jar I started with became 16 oz's of PURE fluffy goodness.
I made a jar for me and gave the rest to my mom and Nana.

Here are some pix:

Yes! to Cucumbers Leave in Conditioner

I have heard great things about this product from EVERYONE who has tried it!
So since I am a PJ I hade to go hunt it down.
It was very hard to find.
I ran across mine on Ebay and I got it for $5.95; I think.
The price had me at HELLO!
LOL
and so did the YUMMY ingredients!
I received it in the mail today and I am anxious to try it.
I will probably use it before the week is over.

Have any of you tried this product?
If so, how did you like it?

FYI: WATER!

How much water do you drink?
How much water do you put on your hair?
Did you know that WATER itself is the BEST hair moisturizer?
In actuality water can be used alone as your daily moisturizer.
Water makes up 60% of the human body weight.
Every system in the body DEPENDS on water...
even the hair and scalp!
Water is lubricant and the clear liquid is used to flush out toxins from the body.

We all should drink more water and use it more often to moisturize our strands.
I read on this website that people should
drink 8 to 10 glasses (8 ounce serving) of water a day to get help maintain gleaming healthy tresses.
I also found it very interesting that water makes up approximately one fourth of the weight of a strand of hair and when hair has the proper amount of water, it will respond by being supple, and shiny.
Water is essential for proper hair growth.

So, instead of reaching for that Coke or Sprite...
THINK again and reach for a nice COLD glass or bottle of water.
Your hair will LOVE you  for it!

"Wonder Curl" Product Review

Hola Readers!
I have a pretty exciting product review to bring to y'all today.
I finally got to test out my "Wonder Curl" Hair Jelly and Smoothie
and it WORKS!
I must say I am VERY impressed.
Today was my wash day so both the products we applied to my
squeaky clean hair.
I used the smoothie as a moisturizer under the jelly.
I applied the smoothie all over my head and my hair SUCKED it up.
That was a GREAT sign.
As you all know, my hair can get very dry so
the more moisture the better!
I like the smoothie because it's not too heavy.
The consistency is a lot like the "Kinky Curly Knot Today" leave-in.
Many products on the market are very thick and heavy; not this one.
It's light and airy and STILL gets the job done!
At least on my hair it does.
After my hair was saturated with the hair smoothie I applied the jelly.
The second I put the jelly on my hair it
instantly defined my curls.
I was also surprised how moisturized my hair felt once the gel was applied.
It was non-sticky and my hair doesn't feel hard or crunchy.
That was a big plus!
My curls began to POP all over the place once the jelly was applied.
I was so excited about that.
The scent that I received was "Honey Shea".
It was kind of strong for me but luckily the smell doesn't linger.

Overall these products will be added to my
MUST HAVE list.
I will definitely purchase these products in the future.
I am very please with my hair this A.M. and I look forward to using
these AWESOME "Wonder Curl" products regularly.

Thank you Scarlett!

Flower Girl

If you ladies couldn't tell
I LOVE wearing flowers in my hair.

Lazy

Sunday was such a LAZY day for me.
Me and my daughter we in our PJ's most of the day
and
I did NOTHING to my hair.
My bush was kinda smushed
and cocked to the side...
Surprisingly, I didn't care.
I was just fine with looking a mess for the day.
I didn't even really contemplate doing my hair.
For some reason I felt free.

Have you ever had one of those days?

Versatility

Have you noticed that your
natural hair gives you "umph", "jazziness" and versatility?
I love dressing up now a days.
Not for the clothes but to show off my natural hair.
I noticed that people's eyes are drawn to me when
I get all fancy.
LOL.

How about you?

Good Behavior

So Coco Puff (my hair)
was on good behavior today!
She looked great!
I noticed that when I use Kinky Curly Curling Custard
she acts DIFFICULT (what I had in my hair the other day).
LOL.
She hates it!
I keep trying to get her used to it but she's not having it.
I decided to stick with my Smooth and Shine Gel
to define my curls.
Thats what Coco Puff LOVES.
:-)

My Wonder Curl Products

Hey Ladies-
My wonder curl samples came in the mail today.
I was so happy when I saw the mail man driving up!
Scarlett, the owner of the company sent me a generous amount of the products.
Very sweet of her!
I will review the products next week
on my wash day (Tuesday).
I will keep y'all posted!

Captured Curls: Keeta Ray (Her Natural Hair Update)

Hello Beauties,
for those of you who don't know Keeta was the VERY first
natural featured on my blog!
She has BEAUTIFUL HAIR and she is really a BEAUTIFUL person;
inside and out.
So I decided to bring her back for a update!
You can read her first feature here.
Check out her update below:

1. Tell me about your hair nowadays.
My hair has gotten a lot bigger. I guess if I wore it straight, I'd say it's gotten longer ;) It's the healthiest it has been in years since I've been chemical free.

 3. Has your hair care regimen changed since your last feature?(do you use heat, natural products, ect...)
My regimen hasn't changed as much as the styles I do now have. I've been wearing mini-twists more often, or wearing my hair in a wash-and-go puff since it's gotten hot out. Or, a low bun (which I'm so excited about, btw. Lol) I only applied heat once in February 2010 to get my hair straightened. It lasted about 4-5 days.

4. What's been working best on your hair lately?
The products that have worked best for me are Kinky Kurly Knot Today without a shadow of a doubt! My absolute fave :) Still! I recently started using Kinky Kurly Curling Custard again for wash-and-gos and I love it now that I know to use a very small amount! I also love Eco Styler Gel & ic Olive Gel. And let's not forget pure shea butter!!

5. Tell me the reaction you get when you're out and about with your natural hair.
I get a lot of questions about HOW I got my hair a certain way, and also many compliments. It's pretty cool :)

7. What makes you love your kinks, curls and coils?
I love the versatility! I can do so many styles, it's ridiculous. Great for someone likes me who gets bored ;) And I love that I've allowed myself to accept myself the way I am and not feel the need to alter my natural look to be accepted.

6. How many inches have you gained since your last feature?
My hair grows at the average rate it seems. So in a year I get about 5-6 inches. I really haven't tracked my growth to be honest, because my biggest concern now is keeping my hair healthy. I get trims about 3 times a year and that's only b/c I have color on my ends (letting it grow out). I don't tend to get too many split ends, though - just those darn annoying knots! Lol

8. Where can we find you on the web?
You can find me online via: Twitter - www.twitter.com/1KeetaRay
      Fotki: http://members.fotki.com/tayah97/about/
      Blog: http://keetaray.blogspot.com

9. Anything EXTRA you want us to know?
Just to be patient with hair growth. if you focus on keeping your hair moisturized and healthy, and your ends protected, the growth will come. One day you'll look in the mirror and wonder where it all came from! :)

Captured Curls of the Week: Angel

Everyone...
meet ANGEL!
A beautiful natural sharing her story on going natural.

Tell me about YOU
My name is Angel, and I am proud to be natural! Throughout my whole life, (prior to my big chop), my hair has been super long and thick. (I have pics to prove!) lol. I was always recognized as the "pretty girl" but deep down inside I had the lowest self esteem. It wasn't until I decided to go natural that my confidence boosted tremendously.
During my seventh grade year of school, I went to a salon that my mother had seen Black women walking out with their hair swinging. The gentlemen asked me did I want a "Revlon or Motions" relaxer and I picked a Revlon relaxed because I associated it with a white woman. After my hair was finished and styled, my hair was swinging like no other. My hair had been cut into layers and I thought I was the stuff. Many compliments I received, but a couple days later I discoverd my head was covered in hard scabs. The relaxer had burnt my scalp! My hair started getting bald spots and the dermatologist diagnosed me with alapecia. That's a lot for any 12 year old to go through. Thank God I had enough hair to hide it.
Later on my mom made me wear braids to help my hair grow back, and it took a total of four years for it to get completely back to normal. Later on in my sophmore year of highschool I got a relaxer, and sparingly touched them up until my junior year when I decided to go natural. I went back and forth, but I decided on May 7, 2025 that that would be the last relaxer I would get. Thank God it was!

Tell me your hair care regimen (do you use heat, natural products, ect...)
I have tried so many different products, but as of now, I only use Creme of Nature Lemongrass & Rosemary Leave-in and Shea Moisture Curl milk and smoothie. I co wash my hair about 3 times a week, apply my leave in throughout then use a quarter sized amount of curl milk and smoothie for my whole head, and do a cold water rinse then seal with the leave in. I don't shingle, and I don't use gel. I want my hair to be as natural as possible, and I was beginning to depend on gel to get a certain texture, but now I'm done! I want my wash n go's to be just that!
Tell me your texture and what works best on your hair type
My hair texture is fine and thick. My hair type varies throughout my head. (3a-3c, maybe small bits of 4a)

5. Tell me the reaction you got when first going natural
Everyone was shocked because I did it on Wed November 11, 2025 and didn't tell anyone I was doing it! My family made me feel horrible, and the comments that I heard were AWFUL! I still hear comments to this day. Now most people love it on me, and I have been fortunate to inspire so many women. Most of all, my boyfriend (later on husband) loves it, and he appreciates my beauty.

Did you BC or transition, if so when or for how long?
I transitioned for 6 months then I BC.

What makes you love your kinks, curls and coils?
The fact that they are mine and that God trusted me with them. I didn't know my hair could be so beautiful. So many women ask me on a daily basis "How do you get your hair to curl?" "Do they rod your hair?" and everytime I say "It's natural" either they don't believe that's possible, or they say I have good hair and I'm lucky. I correct them, and it saddens me because I wonder if I would have thought the same thing if I kept being brainwashed. I love my natural, and my future babies will love their natural too!

Where can we find you on the web?
You can find me on facebook. My name is "Angel Lyriq Peters" and I have a natural hair page on facebook called "Natural Nirvana" I also am on naturalsunshine.ning.com under "Angel Peters"

Anything EXTRA you want us to know?

I just want all you ladies to be encouraged and LOVE YOUR HAIR! Don't love someone else's and not appreciate your own. Love your's! It is beautiful. God doesn't make any mistakes, and he made none creating your hair!

A Great Deep Conditioner for the SUMMER!

Lately I have been co-washing and DC'ing a lot!
My hair gets really dry in the summer months
and
in D.C. the past week it's been HOT, HUMID and
not good for my hair.

So today I whipped up a little concoction
to share with you all.
The ingredients are below, along with pics.

Ingredients:
*Shea Moisture's Deep Treatment Mask
*Virgin Coconut Oil
*Jasmine's Butter Cream Rinse (or Oyin's Honey Hemp Condish)
*Vatika Oil
*1 Egg

1.  Melt down 2 tablespoon's of coconut oil and add a 4 drops of Vatika Oil

2. Add your Shea Moisture Deep Treatment and Cream Rinse
to the melted oil and crack your egg into it as well.

(My 2 year old wanted to help me make the DC, LOL :-)

3. Mix WELL. The mixture should look like
cake batter.

4. Wash hair before applying the DC

5. Rinse shampoo out COMPLETELY!

6. Then apply the mixture to your entire head.
Once applied comb thru with a denman or wide tooth comb.
Then cover with shower cap for 15-30 mins

I still have the DC in my hair as I blog.
LOL
I will come back with an update before the night is over.
If you decide to try this, let me know what you think.
I plan on rinsing with cold water.
So we will see how that goes!

Be back soon...
