Protective Styling with Loc Extensions

I am stoked about these! It was nice to finally find the time to install my loc extensions. I've been dying to put them in but was a bit confused on how I'd go about doing so. Y'all know I have been itching for locs, my marley twists were getting me by but THESE are like the real thing, minus the commitment of course. Not to mention that these are the ULTIMATE protective style! After seeing my friend with hers installed, I was convinced that I could not only pull them off but put them in myself. 8 hours later I had a head full of locs that I adore AND can take down whenever I am "over" them.

The video that helped me figure out how to install the faux locs is by the gorgeous Cassandre Beccai! Ms. Cass also aided in my figuring out how to install my infamous Marley Twists. You can check out the video here.

I installed the locs over a course of 2 days, 4 hours each day. The method is extremely simple as you will see when you watch Cassandre's video. If you can put in Marley Twists you can do this. The locs are basically marley twists wrapped in marley hair.

Healthy Hair: Oyin's BOING is HERE!

So y'all already know that I am excited about this! I cannot wait to try Oyin's new product. I ordered a 1 oz sample jar on the site today for $5. A part of me wanted to get the full size but I chose to be smart and not a crazed product junkie. If I like it, which I hope I do, I will invest in a bigger size.

When I first saw that Oyin was coming out with a coil styler I was extremely happy! Not only are they my staple product line but I have hoping a praying that they came out with a new, fun and brightly packaged "something" that would make my natural hair life better.

Boing! is described as the following:

encourages your coils
cuts down on frizz
pack in the conditioning moisture to keep your hair supple
designed to be moisturizing
 is easy to wash out
has a soft, touchable hold
a  cream formulation gives you killer coils fabulous finger styles, and terrific twist outs

All of the above sounds awesome to me! Have you gotten your jar yet? If not, head over to www.oyinhandmade.com and read up more about the product. If it's up your alley, get a jar and let me know how your hair likes it!

I will be back with an update!

xoxo,
Alex

Healthy Hair: Yang Xue Sheng FA Capsules

I am trying out some new vitamins that I'm excited about! Yang Xue Sheng FA capsules enable the proper circulation of blood in the scalp and provides all the essential nutrients required by the hair. One of the ingredients in these vitamins is Rhizoma Chuanxiong, which can help with preventing problems related to menstrual cycles.  ( source)

Ingredients

Radix Polygoni Multiflori, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Rhizoma Chuanxiong, Radix Paeoniae Alba, Rhizoma Et Radix Notopterygil, Fructus Chaenomelis, Rhizoma Gastrodiae, Semen Cuscutae, and Radix Rehmanniae Preparata.

This herbal remedy is one of the oldest medicines that have been used by the Chinese people to combat various health problems along with hair loss. It works from within the body to enable smooth and steady growth of hair. If these interest you please do your research. I got mine online here! eBay and Amazon are good places to look.  (source)

Please keep in mind that nothing can make your hair grow magically! Good and healthy hair starts from WITHIN. Vitamins, water, a clean diet and exercise can attribute greatly to your overall hair health. I will try my best to post progress pics! My hair is a little more than 9"inches long right now. I know this because the short and narrow CurlFormers don't fit my hair anymore... LOL. I was pleasantly surprised when I couldn't use them anymore.

Do you take vitamins? If so, what and how do they work for you?

xoxo,
Alex

Healthy Hair: 16 month check in

Y'all know that I am terrible with length checks but I am trying to do better, hence this post. I took down my HeatFree Hair a couple months earlier than expected (will review soon and give deets on why). I  also was itching to touch my hair and let it breath for a little bit. I decided to do a length comparison from my cut last March to now, WHOA, I was impressed and very satisfied. I have 16 months of growth and because of my constant protective styles (weave sew-ins and marley twists) my retention is NOTICEABLE. Sharing this post with y'all has me really excited!

I am so glad that I have been taking photos of my hair and keeping them! Look at that growth!! *excited face* I am very pleased and cannot wait to see my progress when I hit March 2014. Maybe I will even do an updated regimen/ product post. If that's something y'all would want, let me know. See below for puff progress pics.

In Review: Milk + Honey Hair

I came across Milk + Honey products months ago. The fun packaging and simple branding really caught my eye! Recently, I was given the pleasure of trying their Hydrating Hair Custard which I love. I've been using it for weeks and have really fallen in love with it. The consistency is very smooth and slippery, just how I like my moisturizers. The custard also smells like an orange slice. With ingredients like coconut oil, aloe and  coffee butter, my hair is in love!

The main thing I enjoy about this moisturizer is that it gets the job done without weighing down my hair and leaving my hands super greasy while styling. I also like that I can use a gel alongside it without any white residue popping up. Another perk about the hair custard is how soft and fluffy it leave my twist outs!

I will be using this product until it's gone and I will be making a purchase soon after.

Have you tried this? If so, what are your thoughts? Interested in learning more about Milk + Honey products? Click HERE.
