Above is a picture of me, my daughter, my mother and my nana. We took this photo at today and I just had to share it with you all! Do you notice anything? We are ALL natural. I have been looking at this picture all day--it warms my heart every time I glance at it. Everyone in the picture, except my daughter, has "struggled" with their hair in some way, shape or form. I'm happy to see that all of us are past the perms and the need/want for them. THIS is who we are and I am glad that we are able to show my daughter unaltered beauty. A lot of people ask me how I keep my daughter in love with her hair, the answer is above. Natural is all she knows-- the 3 main women in her life have been natural since she can probably remember (she's only 3, lol). I honestly think that's the reason why my daughter hasn't had the "I want straight hair" itch yet; even with her being the only girl of color in her class at daycare. It's truly an amazing thing. This picture means a lot to me and I am so glad that the women in my life are strong, beautiful and NATURAL! :-)
xoxo,
Alex

Beautiful picture Alex! Your daughter is a very lucky girl. Lord knows how hard it was for us to come to terms with our natural hair. Now there's curls poppin everywhere! =)

Beautiful picture! I'm in the process of helping my mom through her transition. Can't wait to show my future daughter the same thing your family is showing your little girl...

Thank you ladies!! :-)
Priceless!
VERY inspirational.
I grew up overseas and was the only minority in my classes and definitely had issues with color, especially because I'm dark-skinned.
My mom had a jheri curl at the time, and I don't think I ever asked about having straight hair until after she got a relaxer even though I had those issues.
I'm definitely not blaming my mother, but maybe things might have been different, and maybe I wouldn't have taken up daily flat ironing everyday once I turned 12 if I could have seen the beauty in my own hair.
My grandmother has never had a relaxer, and I am THIS close to having my mom transition after she got a scalp infection and some of her hair came out in clumps. I hate that she is going through it, but with care and ointments she got from the dermatologist, her hair is coming back and she definitely plans to leave the relaxer alone for a long time. I hope I can make that forever, and I am going to do all I can to try, even if that means I will have to go to her house every week just to style her hair.
Maybe one day, if I have a daughter, I can have a picture just like this.
WOW! Curly B, that was moving! Thank you so much for sharing that with us! I am very touched. :)
