Captured Curls: Model Ajolique Jude

I am very excited to feature this lovely lady! This week's second Captured Curls is my dear friend and model for my ALS brand, Ajolique. I must say this is a personal post for me because I went with Ajo to get her BC a couple months back. I am beyond proud of her decision to embrace her beautiful curls. Next week I plan on posting about Ajo's big chop experience; I have some great behind the scene footage of her hair chop. In the meantime please enjoy her newly natural story...
 Please, introduce yourself!
My name is Ajolique Jude. I am from Silver Spring, MD, but currently I reside in Towson, MD. I work as a model with Wilhelmina of PA. Aside from modeling, I love writing poetry, short stories and recently started recording some of my pieces as well. I am also the face of the lovely shopALS brand!

What is your current hair care regimen?
I am very low maintenance with my hair and my regimen is fairly simple. I shampoo and condition my hair about twice a week. Sometimes I’ll co-wash quickly in the shower if my hair is a bit dirty but doesn’t need a shampoo.
What is your hair type and what works best for your texture?
My hair type is 3c and fine, fine, fine. I often compare my hair to baby hair.  So what I’ve found is that it’s necessary for me to shampoo twice weekly because product/dirt seems to build up on my hair quickly and will start to irritate my scalp. Right now, my favorite shampoo and conditioner is Elucence Moisture Benefits Shampoo and Curl Junkie Beauticurls Strengthening Hair Conditioner. I swear by Knot Today Leave-In Conditioner for my wash and go days. It defines my natural curl pattern and doesn’t weigh down my curls at all. If I’m trying to elongate my curls and have even more definition/style, I love Miss Jessie’s Curly Meringue. It works great on my hair type, and even the next day my curls look amazing with a little water spritzing!

Captured Curls: Ashley Coleman

A couple weekends ago I went to Philly to visit some of my friends and had the pleasure of meeting a beautiful natural named Ashley! Of course after seeing her hair I had to spark up convo about styling, hair care and other good hair things. I swear, meeting fellow naturals is always great and a learning experience in it's own. It was great chatting with Ashley and exchanging hair stories so of course y'all know I had to have her featured. Below you can learn a little bit about her and her gorgeous crown, enjoy!

Please, introduce yourself!
My name is Ashley Coleman. I am a songwriter from Philadelphia. In addition to my love for music I just love to write. I have done journalism, written bios, short stories and I also write my own music industry blog. I work for The Recording Academy Philadelphia Chapter which sounds like German when you tell people, but basically, I work for the organization behind the GRAMMY Awards.

What is your current hair care regimen?
That all depends! Sometimes my schedule is ridiculous so I can’t always keep up, however I try to wash my hair at least once every two weeks. In between I like to do co-washes because it leaves my hair feeling soft and gives me the opportunity to detangle. During the winter months I blew my hair out a lot, just based on the fact that I couldn’t wash and go in the cold. But during summer months, I like to wet my hair, throw some Carol’s Daughter Hair Milk or Hair Honey in it and go. Two strand twists are also great because they last a while and you don’t have to worry about your hair every morning.

What is your hair type and what works best for your texture?
I have no idea which classification my hair falls under but I think it’s in the 4 something range. It’s kinky. No ifs ands or buts about it. Lol. I am thankful that I have some type of curl pattern even in the midst of the kink. It allows for me to rock it in a variety of ways. I’ve noticed that my hair thrives stretched with twist outs and that type of thing. And my hair loves water. And though I have a tighter hair texture, my hair is really soft, so I have to stay on top of trimming because it splits very easily. Super due for a trim as I write this.

In Review: Curl Formers

I had no idea that a hair tool could be so FUN and EASY to use! I am in love with CurlFormers, they are my new go to tool when I want my hair stretched and curled with out any heat. The CurlFormers were sent to me a while ago for review. The company sent the long and wide curlers. This was before I cut my hair. Ideally, having the short and narrow ones would've worked better but I still feel that they get the job done. Under the jump you can watch my video on how I took the CurlFormers out and styled my hair afterward. It really looks like I heat styled my hair. My wet kinky curly strands were dried and stretched to the maximum without any heat at all, impressive!

Alex

Loc'd Man: Andrew McCutchen of the Pittsburgh Pirates

Last week I was contacted to check out center fielder Andrew McCutchen's Loc Maintenance video. After watching it I knew that this MLB player had to be featured on the blog as this weeks loc'd man! Andrew's hair is gorgeous and it's always nice to see how athletes and celebrities maintain their natural hair while on the road. In the video (under the jump) you will get an inside look at how Andrew's loc'tian cares for his beautiful loc'd mane! Below Andrew answers some questions about his hair on and off the baseball field. I hope you all enjoy! Please leave comments, I would love to know your thoughts on the video--especially if you rock locs.

For those people who may not be familiar with you, please tell us who you are and what you do.
--I am the center fielder for the Pittsburgh Pirates, one of the most historical franchises in Major League Baseball.

How long have you been growing your locs?
--I’ve been growing them for almost five years.

What do you use on your hair product wise, to maintain it?
--I really don’t use much. I use oil simply to keep my scalp moisturized, but that is really it.
