I must say, this weeks captured curls is probably one of the most beautiful women I've ever seen! Her style and her gorgeous TWA commands attention. Not only is she stunning but she's a fellow creator which is awesome! I hope y'all enjoy Ms. Denisio's curly girl story as much as I did.
Please, introduce
yourself!
Denisio Truitt, 28, Vintage Reconstructer, Photographer, and
all-around creative being.
What is your current hair care regimen?
My hair is dyed blonde so it requires a lot of moisture to
keep it happy. I Co-wash 3X a week or as needed with Kiss My Face Anytime
Conditioner, Clarify every two weeks with baking soda, Deep Condition as needed
with Aussie’s 3 minute leave-in.
When I hop out of the shower I apply my homemade sheaaloe
(melted shea butter, aloe vera gel, argan oil) to soaking wet hair. It gives me
quite a bit of definition and shine.
What is your hair type and what works best for your texture?
I have everything on my head! From 3B/C in the front to 4a
at the sides and back to 4bxyzhsisod sprinkled throughout, lol. My hair is
extremely coarse. It frizzes easily in humidity. I’ve found that more moisture
and less protein works best for my hair
What reaction did you get when you first decided to go
natural or have you been relaxer free all your life?
All of the women in my family have TWA’s or are natural so
for them it was more of a “Its about time!” kind of reaction. I first went
natural in college my sophomore year and amongst the black community at my
predominately white alma mater at that time, the concept of having a short TWA
was kind of foreign. The girls who went natural were the ones with long bouncy
3c ringlets, not the kinky haired sisters like me. I watched that view change
however as the years passed.
I ended up succumbing to the creamy crack several times
before resolving not to perm any more about 5 years ago. And then a year ago I
decided to keep it short!
Did you big chop or transition, for how long? If you’ve
always been natural, did you ever have any curly hair girl insecurities? If so,
what helped you adjust to having naturally curly hair over the years?
I’m a very spontaneous person so each time I’ve gone
natural, I just BC’ed. I already have
several textures on my head, I can’t imagine adding permed hair to the mix!
The first time was of course scary but I had a surprisingly
positive reaction to it so every time after became easier. Then as I said a
year ago I realized I love my hair short so I decided to keep it that way for a
while!
I did have texture envy for a while. There were times that I wished I had a full
head of 3C curls instead of just certain spots on my head. But I’ve grown to
accept and love my very unique texture. It really suits my face!
What makes you love your kinks, curls and coils?
I love how my little kinks feel between my fingers, I love
that I can play in the rain, I love that I never have to think about what I’m
going to do with my hair. My hair
decides for me!
Where can we find you on the web?
theravenouscreator.com is my blog and eightvintage.com is
our Etsy boutique of reconstructed vintage items. The new collection will drop in June so stay

I love her hair! I am a big fan of short natural hair. I don't subscribe to the hair typing system either. I have several different textures on my head.
