Today's Hair: 2/3/11

On Monday I decided I wanted a little bit of a change with my hair, so I called up my stylist and made an apt to get my hair flat ironed on Wednesday. As usual the whole ordeal took about 2.5 hours and since my hair is a little longer now, I felt like I was there forever and a day. This time a around I wasn't pleased AT ALL with how my hair came out, which was a first. I am usually very happy with how my stylist does my hair but yesterday was a fail. She kept saying the reason why my hair wasn't holding a curl was because I need 1/2 inch cut off and I was not about the let her cut that much hair off. As you all know, I am trying to grow out my layers and I rather not have her keep cutting it because then, the layers will never catch up to each other. Don't get me wrong, I am all for trims but not when I feel like I don't need one. Anyway's I wanted a wispy, fun style that didn't leave me with "grandma hair." Since my hair is still in that awkward in between stage the wrong hair style will have me looking like a 60 year old woman in a 21 year olds body, LOL. I didn't want that BUT for some reason she could not get my hair right. I honestly think it is because of the length; I find that she is awesome at really short hair or really long hair-not so much the in between stage. I was also taken back because she kept saying my hair wouldn't lay right because "I am natural" that is so not true but I let it go. I left the salon very disappointed, I kind of felt like I wasted my $65. When I got home I played with it a little bit and finally made the the style she had given me wearable. I put the back of my hair in a ponytail and clipped it up with a hair claw. I left my bangs out around my face and when it was all said  it look cute. Thank God. See pics below. :)

Your bangs look really cute! Maybe you could try pin-curling your hair into a cute textured bob. I think it's funny that the first thing I do when I flat-iron my hair is to put texture back in :)

I agree with Angelina. You should probably try pin curls. When I straighten, that is my nightl routine. I'll have to keep doing that until my hair grows out.

girl u may not like the style but she did a bomb job straitening it. It looks so freaking silky and shiny. I think the layers r cute and normal. Hair grows at about the same rate so layers are expected since hair at the top of your head will not equal the hair at nape of ur neck. Enjoy! It looks great. ;o)

It's hard to find the right stylist who won't blame it on the ends. It's not the ends, trust me. It's the technique. My (old) hairdresser did my hair wet and sectioned each part to make sure it stayed wet. My hair at the time was down my back. Sometimes it's a fail, but I say search for someone who won't be afraid, and who most certainly won't blame it on the ends.

When I went to that stylist she recommended the same thing to me!! Like a fool, I let her cut off that 1/2 inch and I regret it. Glad you held your ground.

I'm a 4a/b natural. My stylist (Chris @ Strandsbychris) gets my hair done within 45 minutes to an hour. It has more to do with your stylist than your hair, cut or otherwise. I have past shoulder length hair, I pay about 50-60.00 and my hair lasts for 3 weeks. We call her flat iron "the relaxer" lol...because my hair, and edges get that straight-she rarely has to second pass w/ the flat iron. And I don't experience damage. I only get my hair done about 4-5 times a year....my hair is still curly. So all this to say, you may want to try a different stylist. It took me a few trys before I found the perfect stylist for my curls. Wish you could come to Columbus to try Chris :-)
