Captured Curls: Summer

This captivating beauty and her curls are to DIE FOR! Good ol' InstaGram put me in touch with Miss. Summer and I think you all will enjoy her curly girl story...

Please introduce yourself?
Hi I m Summer! I m from Tennessee. I m a college student and I am 20-years-old.

What is your current hair regimen?
I shampoo once a month with Shea Moisture Coconut shampoo. I then detangle with a cheap conditioner such as Suave and then I  do a deep condition with my Organix Tea Tree conditioner. I apply Shea Moisture Curl Enhancing Smoothie and olive oil ecostyler gel. I then air dry if I have time but if I m in a hurry or want more volume I diffuse. I do the pineapple at night (very high ponytail with a satin bonnet).

When you travel how do you care for your hair?
Same way as any other day.

How would you describe your hair type?
I would say it s a mixture of 3b and 3c. There's some 4a in there too.

What type of products work best for your curls?
I have been using shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie since I started wearing my hair curly and it has never done me wrong. Coconut oil and olive oil also work well with my hair.
When did you first decide to go natural or have you been a curly girl all your life?
I stopped getting perms 8 years ago but I always straightened my hair until about 2 years ago.

Did you big chop or transition? (If you transitioned, for how long?)
I transitioned from heat damage for 2 years.

Did you ever struggle with curly girl insecurities? If so, what helped you adjust to your naturally curly hair over the years?
Before I quit straightening it yes. I always thought it was ugly but that s because it was so damaged, but I never realized it! Once I got it back to health, the better it looked, and more I liked it. I also had to realize that frizz comes with having curly hair like it or not! Frizz no longer bothers me and I no longer strive for frizz-free hair but healthy damage-free hair. I had to except what God gave me and be happy with it.

What makes you love your kinks, curls and coils?
I wouldn't  say I love my curls because of a certain reason I just say I love ME. We are all unique and I don t feel like one hair texture is better than the next. We should all embrace who we are whether it s straight, wavy, kinky, red, gray whatever!

Where can we find you on the web?
I have a youtube channel the link is http://www.youtube.com/summer0892
I have a blog: summer0892.blogspot.com and theivoryminute.tumblr.com
Twitter @summer0892 and instagram: summerhood

Is there anything else you want to share?
Check out Taren916 on youtube if you haven't already! Her videos are how I learned to manage and take care of my hair. Also I recently just got the DevaCut which made my hair so much better because now it has a shape and I finally got that heat damage cut off! So if you are still unhappy with your hair try getting a nice cut. Go to naturallycurly.com and find a salon. I liked my hair before but now I love it! And always, just love who God made you to be! You can never go wrong with that.
