Ingredients: Petrolatum, Mineral Oil (Paraffinum Liquidum), Lanolin, Castor (Ricinus Communis) Oil, Coconut (Cocos Nucifera) Oil, Olive (Olea Europaea) Oil, Bergamot (Citrus Bergamia) Extract, Fragrance (Parfum), D&C Yellow 11 (Cl 47000), D&C Green 6 (Cl 61565)
My experience: First, let me say DO NOT JUDGE ME. Don't go judging me, I don't want nobody judging me *Kevin Hart voice.* LOL, YES y'all I tried DAX and I had a decent experience with it, for those of you who wanted to know. After reading THIS post by Curly Nikki, I had to go out and purchase myself $3 jar. Last week I started tweeting about eventually using it and people went crazy. Some went good crazy and some went "GIRL. Alex, WHAT are you doing?" crazy! I love my natural hair tweeps! Anyways, initially I was super nervous about using it. After reading and re-reading Nikki's post for tips, I decided to jump right in.
How I used it: I used my DAX to twist. I made sure to keep the product AWAY from my scalp. Clogged pores are NO BUENO so if you choose to use this product, stay clear of your scalp. Before applying DAX my hair was clean and damp. I prepped my strands for twisting with lavender water and I sealed with my Safi, Avocado Shea Butter. Be sure to seal your strands first when applying the product. Since mineral oil, petrolatum and lanolin are very heavy, sealing will keep your strands nice and hydrated underneath the DAX. I ended up twisting my hair in about 20 medium sized twists. I kept them for 2 days before unraveling. I must say, Once I took my twists down, I was more than happy with the definition and feel of my hair. My strands don't/didn't feel oily or weighed down after taking the twists out. The best part of my DAX experience was not having frizzy hair by the end of the day. My hair STAYED defined and soft all day.
Overall: I'll be honest, I liked the DAX and I may even use it again *gasp*. I really like how it defined my hair and kept my curls from expanding and frizzing. The DAX even fought off my terrible twist out shrinkage! I blame my this experiment on CurlyNikki, LOL! I was supposed to be an "all natural" type of girl... I guess I stepped out and liked it.

Today as I was twisting my hair, I was thinking of the last time I was natural. 11th grade. I had hair down my back and it was HEALTHY. I used Dax, sometimes Pink Lotion. Creme of Nature. Lottabody. I'm tired of the don't use this and don't use that. It didn't kill us then and I don't believe it will now. Btw, your Dax twist out looks great. Do you!
Ahh, your hair looks gorgeous! I'll be honest, I bought into all the hype about products with "bad" ingredients but now I know they aren't such a big deal. Hair is just hair, after all, and some things will work for some people but not for others.
I agree. I'm going to try my husband's Nature's Blessing. It is very similar to DAX but has a bit more "friendlier" ingredients :) Nettle,Rosemary,Sage,Peppermint, Thyme, Alfalfa, Pure Virgin Olive Oil, Pure Coconut Oil, Sage Oil, Rosemary Oil, Bergamont Oil, Chlorophyll (from nettle and spinach), Pure Mineral Jelly, Natural Fragrance and Good Intention
No need to warn us of not to judge you... It's just hair grease lol.
And if it works for you, like it did, then it works.
Looks great! I use burnt sugar pomade by oyin handmade and I get the same results.
@Chic~N-Curly Inspiration yea me too but I found that my result didn't last as long. I love Oyin though, def my staple products.
Your twist out is cute! Have you tried Darcy's Botanicals? I get a similar look with Madagascar Vanilla. Dax is one of the only products that keeps my step-daugther's hair moisturized! Without that or a hot oil treatment her hair soaks up everything else like its a joke! I use what works for me, I can't be a natural nazi! LOL And I am a hair stylist and EVERYTHING don't work for everybody! Gotta use what works!
Hey like she said at the end of the blog, "do you boo boo" lol. It's your hair, you know what works & what doesn't, who cares what onlookers have to say? Your hair turned out great!
And honestly I don't use grease anymore, but my mother swore by B&B Super Gro when I was a child. & My hair was always super thick & long. She didn't saturate my hair with it though... so maybe using these types of products to seal moisture can be beneficial when used in moderation.
Cute, and you can see that color deposit from your henna! Use what works
This is a great post. I remember using dax and kuza indian hemp growing up along with castor oil. I stopped a while back but one day last year i ran out of my trusty castor oil and was forced to use kuza indian hemp..my dad swears by it he has 3b/c hair and has been using it for decades. My twist out was shiny as hell!
Dose Kuza Indian hemp grow your hair and is it safe to put in children hair
I'm currently using the kuza Indian hemp cream and it's working for my edges. My hair density has increased from low to medium and my hair is shiny and soft. I love it. We don't always have to follow rules, in the end it all boils down to what works for you.
