So much for my plan of keeping my braided up-do for 3 weeks. I really wanted to and they still looked pretty good after a week BUT my scalp was on fire. I have never had the itchies that bad in my life. I'm not sure what the problem was but I had to take them down and wash my hair. Like a really good wash! My scalp was filthy.
To be honest, I was really bummed that I had to take my braids out. Not to mention taking out teeny tiny braids isn't my favorite thing to do. It took forever and I experienced a lot of single strands knots which are a pain in my backside, LOL! I am seriously considering making a shirt that says "Death to Single Strand Knots!" Would that be obnoxious?
Anyways, as you can see from the photo my hair looks clean and huge! I love seeing my bush and all her glory, especially when she is freshly washed and conditioned. My hair is naked, detangled and ready for styling in the picture above. I decided that this week, will be once again, a front bun turban week. I ended up flat twisting my hair with Oyin's Hair Dew and my Safi Hairsicle Cream. I will probably allow my hair to stretch in the twists until Thursday before taking them down.
My was regimen last night was simple. I used KBB's shampoo and I tired to specifically focus on my scalp. I detangled with Suave's conditioner before rinsing both the shampoo and conditioner out. I like to add conditioner over my shampoo sometimes to get some extra slip and to distribute the products evenly when my hair/scalp is really dirty.
Peep that shrinkage!
xoxo,
Alex

Girl, I feel you. I love having my hair braided but the downside is my scalp always itches to the extreme. No matter what I do - I've tried many sprays/spritzes - some purchased, some homemade... to no avail. I HAVE TO wash my hair weekly.
I watched a video of youtuber Duchess Wright and she has the same problem with her scalp itching as well. She attributes her itchy scalp to silicone shampoos. Free silicone shampoos might help relieve the itchiness of the scalp.
Ain't NUTTIN like a GOOD washing! Let the church say "AMEN".
I had me one of those on Fri & it was the bomb.com, my hair & scalp felt so amaZing.
Girl I know the feeling..I just had some really nice braids in but my scalp was being disrespectful w/ the itch so I had to take them badboys out hunnie!
I've never done braids, but the thing for me is that the MINUTE I put my hair up in an updo it starts itching. And when I mean the minute, I'm not exaggerating. I'm beginning to wonder if it's mental or something, because the only time this doesn't happen is on wash day. And it's not my shampoo, because I do no-poo...
Look at those bountiful curls and coils! pretty!
I'm the same way! I have to wash my hair EVERY week. 10 days is the absolute MAX I can go now and I'm not sure why. Sorry you had to take your hair out so soon, the style was gorgeous!
I just love your hair!! I also have to wash my scalp weekly. Too bad you had to take out the style :(
Hey Sis, I would have taken the easy way out & washed my hair with the braids still in my hair...I know so wrong ;-)
I may have a possible explanation for your itchies.
Recently you did a review on the Shea Moisture Purification Masque. I had also recently found my love in the purification masque. I LOVE the stuff. SO much so, that I left my masque in for about 1.5 hours. Afterwards, I rinsed it out (or so thought) and finished up my style in two-strand-twists. My scalp was on FIRE the next day. So much so, that I had to reluctlantly RE-WASH my hair.
What was the problem? I researched, and the masque contains clay. Clay has the tendency to harden and can possibly cause residue and itching if left on for too long. Most reviews of the product that I found mentioned only letting it sit for 10 mins max.
I'm betting that the clay had hardened and some hung back to lay death on your scalp.
This time around, I only left it on for about 10 mins, and rinsed. Wah-lah! :) Soft hair.
(OAN: I am still working on that spreadsheet for you. I had wayyyy more contacts than I thought!!!!-which I guess is a good thing. LOL)
which KBB shampoo did you use? The Ultimate Conditioning or the Clarifying one? I've been wanting to try KBB.
OMG @COYA that MUST be it! I was thinking that!!!! WOW, I knew it. LOL thank you for sharing that tip.
@Krystel, I use the conditioning one.
